White Tennis Player to Black Opponent: 'At Least I Know My Dad'

White Tennis Player Tells Black Player ‘At Least I Know My Dad’ During Match

John Wilson IV, a North Carolina A&T senior, tweeted the accusation after the match, noting that it was not Brown's only racist comment during the contest. During our match today, along with other racist comments, Spencer told me, "At least I know my dad".

Wilson, who is North Carolina A&T's student body president, also tweeted that Brown made additional offensive remarks.

Well, Black Twitter and beyond made sure that Appalachian State University heard Wilson's tweet loud and clear.

The tennis match between John Wilson of North Carolina A&T State University and Spencer Brown of Appalachian State University took place on January 27, according to Winston-Salem Journal. Appalachian State apologized in its statement, calling the conduct "derogatory and offensive".

Gillin added that it was not clear whether or not App State tennis coach Bob Lake's remarks about having a black guy on the team were directed towards Wilson and therefore the investigation with regards to him is still ongoing. The university said Brown has been suspended indefinitely.

According to the report, a press release indicated the student-athlete has been suspended indefinitely from the team for violating the student-athlete discipline policy.

Now, about that personal call to Wilson, Appalachian State?

When an App state spokeswoman was inquired further about the situation, she said that now there are no additional comments to make regarding the issue. The tweet included a photo of Brown, who is from Spartanburg, S.C. Thank you all for the help, this is something I've always dealt with being a black tennis player.
