The 2018 award season is a big job to tackle. "'Did you hear about Willem Dafoe?' 'Oh, God, no!' 'He was nominated!' 'Don't do that!'"
Meyers held back nothing regarding #MeToo and its successor, #TimesUp. No one knows who these people are, but no one takes them seriously.
Rose McGowan, another Weinstein accuser who earlier blasted the idea that stars wear black to the show, tweeted to Argento that she had "no time for Hollywood fakery" coming from, as she put it, "fancy people wearing black to honor our rapes".
The first award of the night, perhaps fittingly, went to one of Hollywood'smost powerful women: Nicole Kidman, for her performance in HBO's "The Big Little Lies", a series she and Reese Witherspoon also produced. That prompted Ellen Barkin to tweet, "Is serial rapist harvey weinstein in los angeles? on the wknd of the Golden Globes. Why? WHy?"
Meyers also reminisced about the time he joked about Trump being unqualified to be president during the 2011 White House Correspondents' Dinner, which some said inspired the current president to run.
Instead, he directed his sharpest barbs at accused harassers Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein (whom he predicted, 20 years from now, would be the first person ever booed during the "In Memoriam" segment). "But the room audibly gasped and "oooh'ed" when Seth got to the second part of his joke, to which Meyers then cracked, ". He also poked fun at alleged sexual assaulter Kevin Spacey, who was replaced in the film "All The Money in the World" by Christopher Plummer. If we're being honest, he didn't quite ace the landing - a random Bert and Ernie-themed Call Me By Your Name joke had us channeling his former "Weekend Update" deskmate Amy Poehler and going, "Really?" - but Meyers recognized the moment and spoke to it with panache. The crowd made a noise. "Oh, was that too mean?" continued Meyers in a southern accent.
That one got another audible reaction. When he tried to reiterate the premise of the bit, Poehler interrupted him, "Oh is that how it works?"
"I do the setup and you do the punchline", he explained.
McGowan is taking on Hollywood in her own way. "I'm a woman in Hollywood. "Not yet, we have to wait", Meyers told her", as Spielberg was seen in the audience, covering his face with his hands as Streep doubled over with laughter. "I don't need a setup to make a punchline work, okay?"
"Every day should be a platform for conversations that are helpful for the human race to be better", she said.
Hornets coach Clifford to return to work next week
Clifford stepped away from the Hornets on December 6 due to health issues, set to return just over a month since his departure. He led the team to a playoff berth his first season and again in his third year, but has not gotten out of the first round.
Houston's Harden out at least 2 weeks with hamstring injury
Paul told Aldridge he wants his current team, the Houston Rockets , to emulate the Spurs if they want success in the postseason. Stephen Curry missed 13 games with an ankle injury. "It's no secret they're the defending champions", he said of the Warriors.
