Cormier actually lost his last bout after defending his title a couple times, but Jon Jones failed a drug test, so the title reverts to Cormier. However, after Jones was flagged for a potential anti-doping violent, the UFC stripped of his belt while overturning his previous win over Cormier to a No Contest. It was the victory that placed him in front of Miocic at UFC 220.
