Turnovers, poor shooting doom MI in 72-52 loss

Sophomore forward Isaiah Roby puts up a shot in the second half of Nebraska's 72-52 win over No. 23 MI on Thursday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

"It's good to kind of flip the tables on them", Roby said.

James Palmer Jr. led Nebraska with a game-high 19 points, including a 3-pointer that put MI behind, 56-39, with 7:32 remaining.

With the win, the Huskers improve to 14-7 on the season and 5-3 in Big Ten Conference play, and they now hold an invaluable signature victory on their NCAA Tournament resume.

"You could see tonight why Nebraska is 11-1 at home", MI head coach John Beilein said. "This is the way the league is going to be all year long". Their 52 points were their fewest this season.

MI is sixth in the nation with 16.1 three pointers allowed per game while Nebraska is 27th with 18.5 three pointers allowed per game.

"I was just very proud of the guys tonight", Nebraska head coach Tim Miles said. MI went up 12-10 on a 3-pointer from forward Isaiah Livers with 13:51 to go.

Nebraska was in total control this time. The Wolverines had twice as many turnovers (12) than assists (six).

Moritz Wagner didn't score in the first half against Nebraska and finished with two points and seven rebounds for the Wolverines.

Wagner, who scored 27 points last Saturday against Michigan State and had reached double figures in all but two games, finished with a season-low two points, his only basket coming on a dunk early in the second half.

"Adversity - we've proven we can adjust to that", he said.

MI (16-5, 5-3) had won all eight of the previous matchups with the Cornhuskers since they joined the conference in 2011. The Cornhuskers went on a 10-1 run and opened up a 45-28 advantage.

MI then went without a field goal for over five minutes while the Cornhuskers reeled off a 10-1 run. And then a final minute of hysteria ensued, with the Wolverines ultimately winning 68-67 on Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman's free throws, his 999th and 1,000th career points, with 1.2 seconds to play. "But prosperity? That's what the really good teams adjust to". "It shows what they're capable of".

And after watching MI pull out a dramatic win over Maryland, here is a look at how to watch the game Thursday against Nebraska. Defensively, the Wolverines struggled to contain off the dribble, leading to easy baskets for Nebraska (14-7, 5-3). MI came into the game No. 30 in the RPI; no other opponent Nebraska has beaten is in the top 50.

After playing Michigan Thursday, Nebraska will play Ohio State in Columbus Monday. (11.9) and Anton Gill (9.5) per game. He notched five rebounds but was scoreless in the first half, shooting only once. Nebraska is also 39th in rebounds, 76th in assists, 89th in steals and seventh in blocks. Tshimanga had started the first 18 games.

"Last week, I discussed some personal issues with Coach Miles", the 6-foot-11 sophomore center from Montreal said in a statement.
