Sources in the Indian Army said the "boom" of the Dhruv Advance Light Helicopter (ALH), from which the slithering operation was being conducted, broke off.
According to reports, the "slithering operation" was part of the "Army Day" rehearsals taking place in Army's parade ground in the national capital.
Slithering involves soldiers coming down from a hovering helicopter through a rope.
Soon after the accident, all three injured jawans were immediately taken to the hospital by the Indian Army.
Confirming that the soldiers did not suffer serious injuries, the Army officials added that no slithering operations will be performed on the upcoming Army Day. The army authorities have called for an investigation into the matter. All of a sudden, the rope gets detached and the three men come crashing down, the Financial Express reported.
A video shows two soldiers sliding down the rope hanging from Dhruv helicopter.
"The whole boom of the helicopter broke, it is likely to be some material-related issue, but the exact reason will be ascertained only after the inquiry report comes in", a source said.
The Army Day commemorates the day when General (later Field Marshal) KM Carriappa took over the command of Army from General Sir FRR Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief in 1949 and became the first Commander-in-Chief of Indian Army post Independence.
