The fire burned almost 282,000 acres and destroyed more than 1,000 structures.

California's five-year average for wildfires during that time frame is 4,787 and 202,737 acres burned. The state's fires scorched more than 505,900 acres, more than double last year's burned acreage count.
Cal Fire reported 6,982 fires in California from January 1 to Dec. 17, including the devastating North Bay fires in October and the Thomas fire, which began in early December. The fire destroyed more than 1,060 structures. "People could still lose their lives walking around in those areas".
