The Reason Why Lorde Turned Down Her Grammy Performance

Lorde apparently chose to boycott the event to an extent, reportedly refusing to appear and sing with other artist during a Tom Petty tribute when all of her male counterparts were allowed solo spots.

And from Mo Ryan: "These quotes are breaking my brain: Neil Portnow of Grammys org says women (only 1 of whom got a Grammy Sunday night) need to 'step up.' No Lorde performance?"

Per usual, the Grammys feature much-discussed performances from the biggest names in music-except this year, Lorde's name won't be discussed amongst other performers on Monday morning.

A bubbling undercurrent of sexism was also pointed out by Lorde's mother, Sonja, who took to Twitter to highlight that in the last 6 years, only 9% of the 899 of Grammy nominees have been women. She was nominated for four awards for her breakout hit, "Royals", and debut album, Pure Heroine, and won two: Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Dozens of artists and music industry players also sported white roses in support of the Time's Up and #MeToo movements against sexual abuse and harassment.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Portnow and Grammys executive producer Ken Ehrlich were asked about this backstage.

"I don't know if it was a mistake", Ehrlich said.

"I am honoured to win an award, finally, and I wanted to thank everyone at Netflix, at 'Saturday Night Live, ' at 'The Chappelle Show, '" he said. "So, sometimes maybe people get left out that shouldn't, but on the other hand, we did the best we could to put on a really balanced show".

"It's the work we do year-round that supports the fantastic artists you've seen here tonight and over the last 60 years", Portnow said in summation. Bestie Taylor Swift, 27, was a no-show, but we don't care, because the "Liability" singer shines all on her own!
