Legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja was honoured with the second highest civilian honour, Padma Vibhushan, by the Government of India on Thursday.
CHENNAI:Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, DMK leader M K Stalin and other political leaders congratulated music director Ilaiyaraaja and five others who have been chosen for Padma awards this year. Ilaiyaraaja has composed over 6500 songs and provided film scores for more than 1000 films, predominantly for Tamil cinema.
Yesterday, on the occasion of 69th Republic Day, Government of India felicitated some legends from their respective fields with the prestigious Padma Awards. Meanwhile, opposition party leaders as well as film actors, directors and others congratulated Ilaiyaraaja. "I congratulate Ilaiyaraaja who is set to get Padma Vibhushan award. Similarly I congratulate other persons who have been selected to get Padma awards from Tamil Nadu", Stalin tweeted.
In a statement, the CM said that the six had brought glory to the State and hoped that they would continue to achieve more in the future.

AK Saseendran was the transport minister 14th Kerala Legislative Assembly and he resigned on 26 March 2017. Expressing happiness over the verdict, Saseendran said he would abide by the party leadership's decision.

All the big musical bands of Meghalaya have been invited to perform at the concert, "Meghalaya: Celebrate Peace and Way of Life". The terms of the Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura legislative assemblies will end on March 6, March 13 and March 14 respectively.
