Steve Bannon On Capital Hill

President Donald Trump introduces Enda Kenny the Taoiseach of Ireland to Wilbur Ross U.S. Secretary of Commerce in the West Wing Lobby on Thursday

Bannon refused to answer questions about his time with the Trump administration or the transition period leading to it when he first appeared before the panel on Tuesday.

Mr Bannon, who was a close adviser during United States President Donald Trump's 2016 election campaign, had been subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury in Mr Mueller's probe of links between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign. The 64-year-old ex-Breitbart News chief reportedly told the investigators that he couldn't discuss his time on the presidential transition or in the White House because of "executive privilege".

The argument was laid bare this week during former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon's interview with the House Intelligence Committee.

A spokesman for Mr Mueller has declined to comment.

It's unclear who Burck was communicating with in the White House.

Bannon, according to Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by Michael Wolff, said the meeting attended by Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and then campaign chairman Paul Manafort was "treasonous" and "unpatriotic".

"Never, never, never - I can't say never enough - let your client sit down with the prosecutors who are trying to develop a case against him", Napolitano said.

Hope Hicks' highly anticipated testimony before the House Intelligence Committee was abruptly delayed Thursday amid questions about whether the White House communications director would be able to respond to inquiries about topics after the campaign season, four sources told CNN. But it's unclear if executive privilege applies to happenings before President Donald Trump took office. When asked whether he believes the White House is interfering with the House investigation, Conaway sidestepped the question. Bannon's comments to the committee about these conversations were first reported by Axios.

Congressional Republicans, of course, had every reason to dislike Bannon in private before, especially after Bannon publicly declared his hatred for many of them, calling them part of the "deep state", but now it seems that Republicans are willing to publicly denounce him.

But when the lawmaker's questions moved to Bannon's time in the White House, Bannon's lawyer got on the phone with the counsel's office. For its part, the White House offered a dismissive response to the ongoing Russian Federation probes."I think we've been dealing with this hoax for the better part of a year", Sanders said Wednesday.
