Star Wars IX pitch about Rey's fate moves Daisy Ridley to tears

Throughout much of The Last Jedi, Finn's devotion to Rey persisted, putting her safety ahead of his allegiances to any organizations, all while he was unknowingly growing closer to Rose (Kelly Marie Tran). It can be recalled that the sequel to "The Force Awakens" delivered a punch in the gut to Rey, who was informed by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) via Force telepathy that her parents were no one important.

Look away now, FN-2187, for Daisy Ridley has addressed those rumors of a potential Rey/Poe romance blossoming in Star Wars: Episode IX.

After hearing her character's fate in Colin Trevorrow's Star Wars: Episode IX pitch, Daisy Ridley was apparently moved to tears.

I haven't spoken to J.J. "I think it's wonderful to have relationships that are not romantic", Ridley shared during a recent press event.

Picking up the pieces that Star Wars: The Last Jedi left behind is a daunting task for any filmmaker, and for a little while, Colin Trevorrow carried the burden. "I introduced him to Daisy Ridley at the 'SNL" after-party, it was the first time they had met. "I don't think, in films, you always need a romantic relationship and I think friend relationships can be romantic in their gestures, in their intimacy, in all of that". It is kind of unusual to think that we are two movies into this trilogy and Rey and Poe have only shared one scene together. The reveal settled the debate over Rey's true origins, effectively shutting down theories that she is the daughter of Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, or even Han Solo.

If the new trilogy is seeking to break the mold of the previous films, having the main female lead not be a romantic character would be a definite change of pace.

In fact, the friendship (or friendzoneship depending on your perspective) between Finn and Rey in The Force Awakens was great and told us a lot about each character as we got to know them and that bond has continued.
