After rising to prominence in the Indian Premier League for the Delhi Daredevils he has asserted himself as one of the most lethal attacking batting prospects in the country.
Delhi wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, abruptly sacked from captaincy a week ago, gave another example of his rare talent by blasting a record 32- ball hundred in a North Zone match against Himachal Pradesh on Sunday. Pant slammed the second-fastest T20 hundred, taking a mere 32 balls to the milestone.
Chris Gayle's 30-ball IPL century is the quickest in T20 cricket
Opting to field first after winning the toss, Delhi were handed a target of 145 by Himachal Pradesh after Nikhil Gangta (40) and skipper Prashant Chopra (30) helped their side put up a modest total. Courtesy of his unbeaten 116, Delhi raced to their target of 144 in just 11.4 overs. Pant's achievement means he will now hold the record for scoring the fastest T20 century by an Indian. The day turned out to be even sweeter for Pant as he was picked up for a whopping Rs 1.9 crore by Delhi Daredevils for the 2016 IPL season. It took another 14 balls for Pant to script history as he registered his maiden T20 century riding on 10 sixes and seven boundaries.
At a tender age of 20, Rishabh Pant has already broken several records. He hammered an 18-ball fifty in India's win over Nepal in the group stages. En route his record breaking ton, Pant eclipsed a 28-year old record set by former Tamil Nadu opener VB Chandrasekhar, who reached the three-figure mark in 56 balls against Rest of India during the Irani Cup match of the 1988-89 series. In the same season, he became the youngest wicketkeeper to score a triple century in the Ranji Trophy with 308 off 326 balls against Maharashtra.
