Quake of magnitude 6.1 strikes Afghanistan, tremors felt in North India

An quake of magnitude 6.1 on the Richter scale struck central Afghanistan in the Hindu Kush region on Wednesday morning.

The epicentre of the quake has been located 35 kilometres south of Jarm, Afghanistan, as per the USGS.

"Tremors felt in parts of north India following a 6.2M natural disaster on Afghanistan-Kazakhstan border, " the IMD said.

Strong aftershock and tremors were felt in parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The tremors were felt across the state including Shimla, Solan, Dharamsala, Kangra, Palampur, Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur and Mandi, according to IANS. EMSC reported epicenter in Hindukush region of Afghanistan, originating at 180 KM depth.

For many people in Kashmir, the tremors recalled the nightmare of the October 2005 natural disaster that flattened wide parts of Jammu and Kashmir on either side of the Line of Control.

People in Chandigarh also experienced the natural disaster which lasted a few seconds.

Quisar Abbas Qurashi added: "Earthquake tremors felt in Islamabad New Delhi, Lahore, Sargodha #India #Pakistan #earthquake". Reports from Srinagar said the tremors were exhaustive and people were seen coming out of their offices and homes soon after.in Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and New Delhi also e witnessed Similar scenes. Several were injured, too.
