In the coming months, the automaker announced Monday, it will begin offering access to Alexa on "select" Toyota and Lexus models, and the plan is to expand the line-up over the coming years.

The new Vuzix Blade AR smartglasses with Amazon Alexa integration are the most talked about voice-enabled device at the CES 2018.

There's a lot of third-party devices out there that are putting Alexa on your dashboard as an aftermarket add-on, but Toyota is one of the first automakers to fully embrace loading their vehicles up with Amazon's voice-powered smart assistant.

Yes, of course an Echo Dot is still way, way cheaper, but Vuzix's Blade demonstrates that Amazon Alexa has the potential to turn into something far more than a tech curio that gathers dust somewhere in your living room. At CES in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Toyota announced the voice technology would be incorporated with the carmaker's infotainment systems.

The service will also enable new features in the cars themselves, such the ability to start the engine remotely or lock the auto doors, by giving a command through another Alexa device in the home or elsewhere.

In a statement, Toyota Connected CEO Zack Hicks said "Voice services are rapidly becoming more popular and through our integration with Amazon Alexa, Toyota and Lexus customers will soon be able to easily speak to Alexa in their cars while on-the-go".

What is more exciting to hear is that Amazon has expressed its intentions to extend the Alexa technology to wearables and fitness devices and beyond. Vuzix envisions a future in which a user could walk down the street wearing its glasses, glance over at a sign for an upcoming concert, and then ask Alexa to purchase a ticket for that event.

Aside from its smart home connectivity, Alexa provides a more reliable natural language processing.
