Mann ki Baat: PM Modi hails 'Women Empowerment', remembers astronaut Kalpana Chawla

We have honoured those who may not be seen in big cities but have done transformative work for society.

Addressing the nation in his monthly radio address "Mann Ki Baat", the Prime Minister said that "women power has contributed a lot in the positive transformation being witnessed in our country and society".

The prime minister also highlighted the works of some of this year's winners, whose names were announced on the eve of Republic Day, and said they should be invited to schools and colleges so that they could share their experiences and inspire others.

Society should also go beyond these awards and make efforts to recognise people working selflessly, he said. This will be PM Narendra Modi's first Mann Ki Baat after the year commenced.

She gave the message that there is no limit to woman power, he said, adding that in India were moving forward in every field and making the country proud.

He also referred to Matunga railway station - India's first all-women station on Central Railway (CR), manned by a staff of 41 women.
