LSU's Derrius Guice declares for 2018 NFL Draft
"It has always been my dream to be able to attend LSU", Guice said in the video.
Guice is projected to go anywhere from the early to late first round in most mocks thus far. "I am grateful and excited to start this new journey". "Having an opportunity to play for this historic university was truly an honor... nothing will ever replace LSU in my heart because you played a big part in raising me from a young boy into becoming a man".
His departure, along with the departure of senior running back Darrel Williams, leaves LSU with Nick Brossette (19 carries, 96 yards) as the expected top returning rusher for the 2018 season. He had five 100-yard performances this past season, including a 276-yard effort against Ole Miss.
Over his career, Guice notched 3,074 yards on 471 carries and scored 29 touchdowns on the ground.
Guice's sophomore year was one for the record books despite the fact he was technically Fournette's backup.
Though rushing for 250 yards or more is a rare feat in college football, Guice did it three times over his career at LSU. He immediately profiles as high as the second-highest graded runner in the draft behind Penn State's Saquon Barkley.
Guice, who shared the workload with Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette in 2016, rushed for 2,638 yards and 26 touchdowns over the past two seasons.
