The New York Knicks plan to sign former lottery pick Trey Burke to a contract for the remainder of the season, league sources told Yahoo Sports. In 26 games this season, Burke is averaging 26.6 points, 5.4 assists and 3.3 rebounds per contest. Sources said he will sign a deal for the rest of the season Sunday. Burke, who played this season for the Knicks' G League affiliate team, the Westchester Knicks, had been targeted by New York's front office for some time.
NY has spent the first 42 games of the 2017-18 regular season with a balance between veteran experience and long-term potential at the point guard position. He was traded away to the Washington Wizards for a 2021 second-round pick and played for them during 2016-17.
Burke signed with the Knicks in October and was assigned to the G League.
During his National Basketball Association career, Burke has put up 10.6 points, 3.6 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 267 contests.
The question is: Why should New York Knicks fans be excited about the addition of point guard Trey Burke to the main roster? NY will release guard Ramon Sessions to create roster space, league sources said. It will be interesting to see how will Hornacek distribute the minutes with the return of Tim Hardaway Jr.to the lineup.
