Jaguar tests all-electric I-Pace in extreme cold, gets a launch date

Jaguar I Pace winter testing

Jaguar confirms the vehicle will be capable of being recharged from zero per cent to 80 per cent in around 45 minutes using a 100kW DC charger. Capable of charging in less than 45 minutes* and with sports vehicle performance and SUV practicality, the I-PACE will be the flawless every day auto - whether on the school run, daily commute or even coping with sub-zero temperatures.

Jaguar also confirmed this week that the I-PACE will be revealed in a live global broadcast on March 1, 2018 at 1:00PM ET/19:00 CET and will go on to make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6, 2018.

With supercar looks, sports auto performance and SUV space all in one electric package, Jaguar promises to rip up the rule book when it comes to what drivers expect from an electric vehicle.

Jaguar hasn't revealed many other details about the production auto yet.

The interior of the I-Pace concept is finished with premium materials and an unwavering attention to detail - from the expansive panoramic glass roof to the sporting, beautifully finished seats - while digitally it offers two touch screens to provide information as well as limit distraction and improve the driving experience.

It sure feels like the Jaguar I-Pace electric auto concept was revealed longer ago than November 2016. As you can see, the engineers look like they had fun.

A 90-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack under the I-Pace cabin floor is expected to deliver a rated range of 220 miles or thereabouts. It represents the next generation of battery electric vehicle design. "It is a preview of a five-seat production vehicle that will be on the road in 2018".

The electric crossover is powered by a pair of electric motors, one per axle, that add up to a total of 300 kilowatts (400 horsepower) and 516 pound-feet of torque.

That system requires the electric Jaguar to stay plugged in while parked, though we suspect the company has spent a fair bit of time testing how the battery holds up after multi-day "cold soak" periods at those temperatures.

Jaguar released a new video featuring extreme winter tests of its I-PACE electric SUV at the Jaguar Land Rover's Ice Academy in Sweden.
