Home and Away actress Jessica Falkholt has her life support

An Australian soap opera star has been taken off life support a little over two weeks after she suffered devastating injuries in a vehicle accident that killed four others.

Fighting for life in the Intensive Care Unit at St George Hospital, Jessica's family has been by her side ever since the accident and have been told by her surgeons that the actress' recovery is now a "waiting game".

The tributes come one day after her three family members were laid to rest in Sydney - including her sister Annabelle, 21, and parents Lars, 69, and Vivian, 60.

Falkholt played Hope Morrison on the long-running Australian soap opera.

Annabelle died in hospital three days later, and Jessica had remained in a coma following several surgeries.

The other driver was Craig Anthony Whitall, a serial driving offender, who was also killed in the smash.

He said Mr Falkholt had always been a careful driver and he would often joke about having to add on time to any trip, which he called the "Lars factor".

Jessica and Annabelle Falkholt were pulled from the wreckage and taken to hospital.

Speaking about his sister Vivian, he continued: "I always thought we would grow old together".

Ponticello also spoke about the love between his sister and brother in law, "They are together and always will be".

It was reported that a auto driving on the wrong side of the road caused the collision, hitting the Falkholt family head on as they made their way home to Sydney following a short festive break.

The Daily Telegraph reports Whitall had more than 60 convictions and been jailed for driving while disqualified but was still behind the wheel.

Police would not comment on the specific case, but said people should not drive under the influence.

The crash occurred near Sussex Inlet on the NSW coast.
