Duplicate charges causing havoc for Capital One customers

Capital One says it's fixed double-charge glitch, account-holders' money back in their wallets

A glitch has caused recent transactions to be charged again, appearing as pending but tying up hundreds, or even thousands for many account holders.

It's not clear at this time how the errors occurred or how many customers were affected by the extra charges. Inquiries to Capital One by The Washington Post were not immediately returned. Some customers claimed on Twitter that the issue was so severe that it left their accounts overdrawn.

"Customers are being notified when they sign in to their accounts or contact us that their balances should now be accurate", a bank spokesperson said Thursday morning.

Attention Capital One users: You may want to check your balance.

Customer support asks that those who bank with them log into accounts online or on their app for updates. In some cases, the same charge was withdrawn three times. That charge was posted twice to his account.

Capital One sent out a tweet telling customers to "rest assured our support teams are engaged and working towards a fix". Aggravated customers aired their grievances on social media.
