Doesn't anyone want to direct the Gambit movie?

Gambit’ Loses Another Director

Sadly, that won't be happening, as Deadline reports that the director has now exited the project due to scheduling conflicts.

All jokes aside, the decision for him to direct probably meant that the Gambit film was going to be a bit of a swashbuckling adventure with a significant bit of humor (like many of Verbinski's other projects), so this could be a significant loss to the project.

Gore Verbinski becomes yet another director to exit Fox's Gambit movie which was supposed to star Channing Tatum as the titular superhero.

The movie also stars Lizzy Caplan as Bella Donna Boudreaux, Gambit's first love and the daughter of New Orleans' Assassins' Guild in the comics.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt was the man in the directors' chair for awhile, before giving way to Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman.

THR detailed the Fox scheduling changes noting "Insiders say one reason for the change is for the studio to avoid having an overlap with X-Men movies in certain overseas marketplaces, where Mutants and Deadpool 2 would have been in theaters at the same time".

"We got really lucky", Tatum told Yahoo Movies in July. Gambit is expected to be released in February 2019. Pirates of the Caribbean filmmaker Gore Verbinski is the latest director to part ways with the X-Men spin-off movie, which was rumored to start production this March. Tatum still remains on board, and from what we understand, the search for a replacement is already underway. Gambit was last seen on-screen in the terrible X-Men Origins: Wolverine and was played by Taylor Kitch.
