Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase says it won't be adding Ripple… for now

Coinbase has quashed rumors that cryptocurrency Ripple (XRP) is due to make its debut on the trading platform.

The company in a blog post said that it will follow the digital asset framework it released a few months ago highlighting the criteria for adding new digital assets to its exchanges.

The Coinbase announcement today doused previous rumors that the coin buying and selling platform was adding another new coin in the near future.

"We wanted to give our customers details about our process for adding new assets to our trading platform".

Ripple, the white-hot crypto currency that more than doubled in the past week, plunged as much as 20 percent after Coinbase said it's not adding any new coins to its exchange at this time.

Coinbase, one of the largest crypto exchanges in the world, published a post yesterday saying they have not made any decision to add any additional digital assets to either GDAX or Coinbase. The platform now supports only four cryptocurrencies - Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash, with the last one added only a couple weeks ago. "Any statement to the contrary is untrue and not authorized by the company". The statement may have been responsible for the quick decline in Ripple from about $3.30 to $2.50 (it's now at $2.78). The coin's total market capitalisation now stands at $117.5 billion.
