Earlier this week, President Donald Trumpsaid he's willing to protect Dreamers-the almost 800,000 immigrants living in the United States who were brought to the country as children without proper authorization that benefited from the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program under President Barack Obama-in exchange for a border wall.
The White House says it supports a deal to keep Dreamers in the USA but only if Congress spends billions more on border security.
If the funding is approved, the border wall would increase from around 654 miles to almost 1,000 miles, covering roughly half the length of the entire US-Mexico border.
While appearing on "Kasie DC" on Sunday night, Castro told MSNBC host Kasie Hunt that he, along with "most Democrats" in the House of Representatives, would vote against a DACA fix if it includes funding for a border wall.
Trump ran through other immigration policies he wants to be part of any package that includes DACA, which was authorized by President Barack Obama in 2012 through an executive order overturned in September.
"Now, I said negotiate", Grassley added.
"And remember this, it's just common sense, they're not sending us their finest, OK", Trump said.
During a Saturday press conference at Camp David, President Donald Trump said, "We all want DACA to happen, but we also want great security for our country".
Multiple newsoutlets are reporting on plans for the President to visit San Diego for a look at border wall prototypes sometime after his January 30th State of the Union address. How can the GOP give Trump a win on the wall without alienating Democrats from a bipartisan solution on DACA? "Bipartisan negotiations continue in good faith among senators who understand what is at stake, and I will continue my efforts to reach a bipartisan agreement". Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Senate Democrat, said Friday that Democrats would not accept the latest offer from Republicans because it included $18 billion to build a wall. "With this demand, he seems to be heading in that direction", Durbin tweeted.
Republicans now maintain a substantial majority in the House, and likely wouldn't need Democrats' votes to pass legislation funding a southern border wall.
Trump is asking Congress for almost $18 billion to pay for the construction of more than 700 miles of his border wall expansion project, according to a report by the Friday.
At the meeting, Trump said he was optimistic he could get Democrats on board with his proposal. We have to get rid of chain migration.
The question for activists in San Diego is going to be "What are we going to do to protest Trump's visit?" Can there be another way to let the world know how much angst and anger Trump's tribute to xenophobia is causing? Please use the comments section to share yours.
