Cold Start To Week, Snow Possible Mid-Week

Deep Freeze, Snow Flurries Ahead After Sunday Warm-Up

"Similar to today, many areas will not see accumulation, but a quick dusting to ½" of snow could occur primarily in southeast Kansas on Monday. Clouds will increase through the afternoon hours, just ahead of our next winter storm. Wednesday brings another push of cold arctic air, with highs only reaching the upper 20s to near 30. A coating to an inch or 2 is possible is these spots. Slick roads may be a problem for the morning commute, if you have to work on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Snow whips through the area but the cold is not in as big a hurry to leave.

The deep freeze will really take hold on Tuesday with lows dropping into the single digits and risky wind chill values from -5 to -10. Winds will be increasing throughout the evening before shifting out of the north in the morning. Risky wind chills are possible by Tuesday morning, ranging from 10 to 20 below zero. Yikes! Afternoon highs will stay well below freezing on Tuesday and those single digit lows will extend into Wednesday as well. Despite the cold temperatures, Sunday will feature some sunshine.

The winds relax by Sunday morning and that will allow the air to cool into the teens. Mostly sunny and cold, with a high near 11. Wind: S 10-15. High: 41.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, cold. However, we've still got a shot at snow showers or a period of light snow in that time frame. That not as bad as yesterday, but enough to keep wind chills in the teens. The northeastern plains will see some rain / snow mixed showers through the evening that will clear out by midnight.
