Clemson received a huge boost for the 2018 season on Saturday as it was announced that star defensive linemen Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant will be returning to school instead of entering the 2018 National Football League draft.
Several of Ferrell's teammates have already declared for the draft, including wide receivers Ray-Ray McCloud and Deon Cain, safety Van Smith, and guard Taylor Hearn.
Now a prospect for the 2019 NFL Draft Ferrell will work against Ohio State's Nick Bosa, among others, to be the first defensive lineman drafted. Wilkins will be honored at the organization's annual banquet on February 17.
Ferrell, a red-shirt sophomore in 2017, was first-team All-American by Associated Press and a second team selection by USA Today, Sporting News, the Football Writers Association and Sports Illustrated.
Bryant came back in his junior season and became the dynamic player that many thought he would be. He is fourth on the Clemson team and first among defensive linemen.
The Tigers, who went 12-2 this past season and lost to eventual champion Alabama 24-6 in a College Football Playoff semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl, ranked No. 2 in the FBS in scoring defense (13.6 points) and No. 4 in total defense (276.7 yards). They were also tops in sacks on the team with Ferrell recording 9.5 and Bryant had 8.5.
Ferrell, who was named first-team All-ACC, had 5.5 tackles for loss at Syracuse and five in the win over N.C. State.
