A 50-year-old man died after he was hit by a BMW driven by a Delhi University student in North Campus, police said on Friday. The hit-and-run incident was captured on CCTV cameras.

The victim, Shivender (50), was a daily wage labourer and used to live on the streets. As per the CCTV footage, the victim was seen rushing to the other side of the road when Abhinav mowed him down with his speeding luxury vehicle. He crashes on the car's bonnet and windshield, before falling off on the road. Abhinav later told the police that he fled from the accident spot because he was scared, a report said. Seconds later the maroon-coloured BMW is seen speeding away, leaving the man dead on the road. Sahni and his friends were in the vehicle as it ran over the victim, Shiv Nath, who was trying to cross the road in the North Campus of Delhi University, the police said. The accused is said to be the son of a businessman from Punjabi Bagh area.
Abhinav Saini has been charged under sections of rash driving and causing death due to negligence. He was taken for a medical examination to check for his blood alcohol levels. As he was inquiring about the accident, vagabonds at the spot started abusing and threatening him, following which he panicked and fled.
