Boat with 40 kids onboard capsizes in Dahanu

A boat with 40 school children on board capsized 2 nautical miles from the sea shore in Maharashtra's Dahanu on Saturday

Dahanu: Around 135 km from Mumbai, near Parnaka beach, a boat carrying 40 children was capsized. 25 students were rescued with the help of locals and search for the remaining 11 students is on.

The Indian Coast Guard has diverted ships to Dahanu to conduct the rescue operations. The accident took place place today two nautical miles from the shore of the Arabian Sea.

The children, from KL Ponda High School in Dahanu, were on a picnic, media reported.


In addition, the Coast guard vessels and Dornier aircraft has been deployed for the rescue operations.

District Collector Prashant Narnaware told PTI that the incident occurred on Saturday morning off the Dahanu coast. Rescue operations are underway to locate the missing.

As per reports, the boat was overcrowded when it tilted and capsized.
