Blake Bortles struggled badly through his first three seasons in the National Football League, and it was quite a surprise when the Jags picked up his $19 million fifth-year option last offseason.
However, the player told reporters on Monday that he is uncertain whether a return is possible. The team must decide if they want to continue with Bortles as their quarterback or if they want to essentially give up on their former No. 3 overall pick and move on to another option like Cousins or Smith. This year, though, there are two teams that lost in their conference championship that may not have the same quarterback by the start of next season.
However, Bortles held his starting role and responded with the second-best season of his career statistically.
Bortles was even more efficient in the postseason, throwing for 594 yards and three touchdowns compared to no interceptions.
While Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles is under contract through next season, the AFC South franchise has not given him any indication of whether or not they want him back under center in 2018-19.
