BENTLEY is expanding its BentaygaSUV line up with the introduction of a V8 petrol version claimed to be the sportiest model in the range. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Bentayga V8 will be able to propel itself from 0-60 in just 4.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 180 miles per hour, so it's not far off on paper.
Finally, for those interested in fuel economy, the V8 has a claimed combined fuel consumption of 11.4 l/100 km (24.8 mpg UK), with corresponding Carbon dioxide emissions of 260 g/km.
Based on same VW MLB-Evo platform as the Audi Q7 and using the VW Group V8 engine in the same state of tune as another sister vehicle, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the Bentayga petrol V8 bridges the gap between the entry-level (£135,800) V8 diesel and the range-topping (£162,700) W12 petrol.
When Bentley took the wraps off their first ever SUV, the Bentayga, it packed in the most opulent motor one can find under a hood - the 6.0-litre mighty W12. The new Bentley model ditches the normal Bentayga's W-12 engine for a proper twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V-8. This refined efficiency comes via the ability of the engine to de-activate four of its eight cylinders in suitable conditions, without compromising the drive.
Bentley can also fit the optional carbon brakes system, which include the largest front brakes available on any road auto.
The brake discs measure 440 mm in diameter at the front and 370 mm at the rear, and sit inside enormous Bentley-branded calipers, with 10 pistons at the front. Passengers in the back can utilize the crossover's 10-inch removable Android tablets with 4G, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi capabilities.
Meanwhile, three sound systems are offered: Bentley Standard Audio, Bentley Signature Audio and the 18-speaker, 1,950-watt Naim for Bentley Premium Audio system.
Speaking of wheels, the Bentayga will be available with a choice of 11 wheels designs (no, you can't mix and match), including a new 22-inch design finished in black with a polished finish.
Looks wise, there isn't much to differentiate the V8 Bentayga from its other two variants. Inside, the V8 Bentayga's swanky hand-crafted cabin has been updated with a new high-gloss carbon fiber trim replacing traditional veneer surfaces, along with an optional wood and hide trimmed steering wheel.
Inside, customers can choose a four, five or even seven-seat configuration for ultimate versatility, and driver aids include adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and park assist, along with infrared night vision and a head-up display.
