BCCI awaits match referee's report from controversial Karnataka vs Hyderabad T20 match

As Karnataka came out to bowl, Vinay Kumar had a long discussion with the umpires and managed to add 2 runs to his teams total (now 205).

Hyderabad captain Ambati Rayudu and Vinay Kumar were engaged in a heated battle later on. And as fate would have it, Hyderabad lost the match by two runs. "That is exactly what I wanted to tell and we were waiting for the Super Over which never happened", he added.

Andhra and Kerala's game was cut-short to 13 overs after all the nuisance that took place earlier. What I went and told the umpire was "sir you can not change the score, we are batting for 204 as our target".

"At the end, we went and asked to start the Super Over". As luck would have it, Hyderabad lost the match by 2 runs. The team maintained its position and went about the chase with a target of 204 in mind. We were saying that our match was not complete, we still have to play the Super Over. However, replays clearly showed that he had stepped on the boundary, but umpire Ulhas Gandhe didn't bother to go upstairs for a video replay, with Karnataka ending their innings on 203/5. But his run out, followed by Akash Bhandari's, in the 20th over effectively dashed Hyderabad's hopes. They were informed at the innings break that they would be chasing 206. The Hyderabad management did not like the way the match officials, including match referee Rajib Debbarma, revised the target without consulting their skipper.

Karnataka 205/5 (Karun Nair 77, K Gowtham 57) vs Hyderabad 203/9 (PA Reddy 70, BP Sandeep 34; S Binny 3/29). K Devdhar and Deepak Hooda stroked their way towards the target as Baroda chased the total down in 16.3 overs.

Atit Sheth was the pick of the bowlers as he grabbed 2 wickets conceding 18 runs.

Meanwhile in Vizianagaram, Tamil Nadu defeated Goa by 25 runs on Thursday to register its third straight win in the tournament.

Coming off half-centuries in the two previous games, Karthik held Tamil Nadu's innings together with a sparkling 56 on the back of which they scored 155 for 5. Nine boundaries and a six adorned his 42-ball 77.

Karthik, who has been in superb form, got into the act quickly and hit shots all round the wicket. The opener toyed with Karnataka's attack as he hammered medium-pacer Abhimanyu Mithun for two sixes and one four and he raced off to 50 with help of three fours and five sixes.

Though Abhinav Mukund (12) and Shankar fell in quick succession, Karthik found an able partner in B Aparajith (26).

Ironically, the two runs made the difference in the high-scoring match.

Some lusty blows by R Sanjay Yadav (28 not out, 20 balls, 1X4, 2X6) and N Jagadeesan (10 not out, 1X6) helped swell the total to 155.

Hyderabad, which chose to field, got off to a rousing start.

Karnataka will face table-toppers Tamil Nadu in their next match. Binny ended with 3 for 29 in his 4 overs. Washington trapped Desai lbw in the last over of powerplay, while Ashwin struck the pads of No. 4 Keena (3) in the 7th over to reduced Goa to 45/3.
