Having already secured the signatures of two South American stars - Brazilian magician Philippe Coutinho and Colombian talent Yerry Mina - Barcelona are set to add another high-rated prospect from this continent.
With a release clause amounting to €100 million (US$120.3 million) paid to the athlete's former team, Brazil's Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, Mina will bolster Barcelona's defense. "He will bring a physical presence as his 1.95-meter frame suggests, but he is also a quick, ball-playing defender".
On Wednesday, Palmeiras announced it had agreed to transfer Mina to Barcelona, first in the La Liga. "The Colombian uses his aerial prowess to impose himself and score goals". The long-term aim for the Colombian is to partner Umtiti for years to come, as Gerard Pique nears the twilight of his career.
Mina is known for his speed and daring.
Mina joined Palmeiras from Sante Fe previous year, and he proved an instant success. Mina had earlier tasted success in Colombia with Santa Fe after winning the 2015 national title as well as that year's Copa Sudamericana. Mina's transfer included a transaction fee of $14.2 million. He missed part of last season because of a serious foot injury with Palmeiras.
The Madristas are 16 points below league leaders and occupy the fourth position in the La Liga.
Doesn't anyone want to direct the Gambit movie?
Sadly, that won't be happening, as Deadline reports that the director has now exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. Tatum still remains on board, and from what we understand, the search for a replacement is already underway.
