Turkey's leader calls for backing of United Nations motion on Jerusalem

The UN General Assembly on Thursday opened an emergency session to vote on a motion rejecting USA recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"All these nations that take our money and then vote against us at the Security Council or the Assembly, they take hundreds of millions of dollars and billions of dollars and they vote against us", Trump said. "We will take note of each and every vote on this issue", Haley told other member nations in an email, adding, "as you consider your vote, I want you to know that the President and USA take this vote personally".

During a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Trump said that he is carefully watching how each country votes in the UNSC and UNGA, and those that vote against USA interests could lose out on aid from Washington.

The UN General Assembly will vote Thursday on the resolution, prompting intense backlash from the US delegation. We'll save a lot.

At the start of a Cabinet meeting in Washington on Wednesday, with Haley sitting nearby, Trump told reporters that Americans are exhausted of being taken advantage of and praised the USA ambassador for sending the "right message" before the vote.

Cavusoglu, who is now in the Azerbaijani capital Baku for the 5th trilateral meeting of foreign ministers of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iran, is expected to meet with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki Wednesday evening in Istanbul and hold a press conference afterwards, before leaving for NY with al-Malki.

The UNGA is expected to issue a draft resolution on Jerusalem on Thursday titled "Illegal Israeli actions in Occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory".

Associate professor Talha Köse from İbni Haldun University stressed the U.S's role in the Palestinian issue and said the U.S has to pressure Israel for a resolution, not Palestinians.

Her tweet was sharper: "At the United Nations we're always asked to do more & give more".

But as the Trump administration is making clear, any country that votes in favor of the resolution could face retaliation from the U.S.

"Jerusalem is a dream that is present in every Jew's heart and Trump's decision gives this dream clear worldwide recognition", Tzur stated.

The resolution, put up by Egypt and backed by all 13 other spineless members of the council, tried to unwrite 3,000 years of history - until Haley stopped it Monday.

The tweet adds, "So, when we make a decision, at the will of the American ppl (people), abt (about) where to locate OUR embassy, we don't expect those we've helped to target us". The OIC convened on December 13 in Istanbul in an emergency summit where it was declared that the top Islamic body recognizes east Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, and called the White House's decision "null and void".

Turkey and Yemen requested the urgent meeting on behalf of the Arab group of countries and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
