Passengers were outraged after already travelling for four hours, out of an eleven-hour flight.

The unauthorised passenger reportedly had a ticket for a United flight and LAX Airport Police admitted that they had been asked to have "a unit and supervisors on scene when the plane, flight ANA 175, arrives back in Los Angeles".

The flight made an unscheduled U-turn four hours into the 11-and-a-half-hour journey. "Why.why do we all gotta go back, I do not know", she wrote in the first of her updates on the situation.

She wrote: "Thank you so much for taking me on this awesome vacation babe, ' to which Legend deadpans: 'Welcome to Los Angeles'".

By the end of the night, the model, who has more 9.2 million followers on Twitter, had sent more than two dozen tweets about the travel nightmare - racking up hundreds of thousands of likes and retweets.

Mystery surrounds how the passenger had been allowed to board the wrong plane, with reports saying he or she had a ticket for a different airline.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend attend the 5th annual Beautycon festival at Los Angeles Convention Center, Aug.13, 2017, in Los Angeles. "We all have the same questions". "So basically the boarding pass scanner is just a beedoop machine that makes beedoop noises that register to nowhere".

"The pleasure I get out of the story is worth more to me than a direct flight to Tokyo". That's all I ask. "This person must be mortified though", Teigen tweeted. The plane took off from LAX at 11:36 a.m. Tuesday and landed back at LAX at 7:32 p.m.

"We take great pride providing exemplary customer service, and on this flight we failed to do so", it said.

Airport police at LAX said the about-turn was the result of a "mix up and was straightened up", adding that the plane was scheduled to depart on Wednesday morning local time.

ANA initially told LAX officials that there was an "unauthorized passenger" aboard the flight, but the airline later retracted that, according to LAX police.
