Santi Cazorla must 'start from zero' after latest surgery - Wenger

Cazorla starting rehab 'from zero' after latest surgery

The future of Arsenal midfield maestro Santi Cazorla has been cast even further into doubt after the Spaniard was forced to undergo further surgery on his troublesome achilles.

"I sent him a message because he had a new surgery and wished him well", Wenger told the London Evening Standard ahead of Arsenal's Europa League clash against BATE Borisov.

"Unfortunately he has to start again from zero", the Arsenal boss said on Cazorla's recovery.

"It is very sad".

'It's very sad. What Santi has gone through is unbelievable.

Cazorla has made 180 appearances for Arsenal, helping them to two FA Cup successes, but the last of those came against Ludogorets back on October 19, 2016.

"It's really, really sad".

When he was first sidelined a year ago, Ben McAleer of WhoScored.com examined how crucial his absence could prove given how important Cazorla was to Arsenal's creativity. And after, when he starts to run, it will at least take six weeks to come back to training.

"I just hope that he will play at some stage this season".

"When he can start to run again I don't know".

"I was hopeful of January but after, he had this setback that everybody knows about", Wenger said talking about a potential return date.

But now it is looking hopeful that the final game of the season will not be Mesut Ozil's last for us as well, as it is being reported that there has been a breakthrough in his contract talks with the promise of a three year deal.

Cazorla has not played for Arsenal since October a year ago and recently revealed he nearly lost his foot due to a serious infection.

The Spaniard also almost came close to amputating his foot after an infection but the 32-year-old is adamant to regain full fitness and return to the side.
