Rupert Murdoch's $30M Property Destroyed By Wildfire

Rupert Murdoch's estate is dangerously close to the fast moving fire and is completely covered in smoke as of Wednesday afternoon

The Associated Press reported that the evacuation orders affected around 200,000 people and that almost 200 homes had already been destroyed.

News reported this morning that the 125-acre Skirball Fire (named for its proximity to the Skirball Cultural Center) has begun to consume Murdoch's Moraga Estate vineyard in Bel-Air.

Raging fires on the hills in the swanky Californian suburb of Bel-Air have provided a visually mesmerising backdrop for the drive home from work.

The home of Rupert Murdoch, located on the Moraga Estate vineyard just outside of Los Angeles, has been caught in the blazes of the wildfires now burning their way across the greater L.A. area.

Moraga Vineyards does fall within the evacuated area.

The fire devastating California's Bel Air community is also roaring through the vineyard of media mogul and Realtor.com owner Rupert Murdoch. The main residence is 7,724 square foot and the property includes a two bedroom guest house and a 4,400 square-foot office building.

According to the real estate news site Curbed, Murdoch's home was valued at close to $30 million when he purchased it.

She said firefighters stepped in to douse the flames with the aid of helicopters and that other storage sheds, the winery itself and the estate's unoccupied house are not damaged.

The Skirball fire, threatening Murdoch's property, has swept through more than 150 acres of land, with winds helping the fire spread-although the Los Angeles Fire Department said those winds had now died down. The fire is now being fought by hundreds of firefighters, Los Angeles Daily News reports, and at least four homes have already been destroyed.
