Perhaps none have been so strong as from adventure outfitter Patagonia who quickly changed their homepage to a stark black and white message that says, "The President Stole Your Land".

"Yesterday, Trump signed an order slashing the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase national monuments".

"I think the only thing this administration understands is lawsuits", Choinard told CNN.

Interior Department spokeswoman Heather Swift said Wednesday that Patagonia's claims are inaccurate because Zinke never took any private planes paid for by special interests.

"Your timeless bond with the outdoors should not be replaced with the whims of regulators thousands and thousands of miles away", President Trump said.

Zinke shot back, calling that "nefarious, false and a lie".

A climbing advocacy group called the Access Fund has also said it plans to sue the administration.

REI directs you to the sites of Conservation Alliance, Outdoor Alliance, and Monuments for All. The company joined with REI and other outdoor recreation companies in leading a push to move the industry's lucrative trade show from Salt Lake City to Denver after two decades in Utah. Business owners are anxious that changing the monuments' status will lead to fewer people traveling to the area or opening new businesses there, she added. That event, scheduled for January, will be now be held in Colorado. And in a statement from CEO and president, Rose Marcario, they reveal that they plan on taking their own legal action.

Presidents of both parties have set aside increasingly large parcels of land, raising the ire of Western Republican lawmakers anxious the protections will constrain energy development and animal grazing. While past presidents have used the Antiquities Act to protect unique lands and cultural sites in America, Trump is instead mangling the law, opening this national monument to coal mining instead of protecting its scientific, historic, and wild heritage.

Andrew Black, a Presbyterian pastor and director of community relations, education, and veterans outreach for the New Mexico Wildlife Federation, organized a trip last month for almost 30 Christian and Jewish clergy members to meet with tribal leaders at Bears Ears.

"The fact that it's being revoked like this is a complete affront to those tribes, and we didn't hesitate to offer to defend them to the bitter end to help defend this area", says Natalie Landreth, a staff attorney at the Native American Rights Fund, an organization representing three of the tribes in the suit.

The Antiquities Act doesn't expressly authorize a president to abolish a national monument designated by a predecessor - and none has ever done so. Gary Herbert said in a statement it was an abuse of power to create such a big monument against the opposition of state elected officials. Their actions actually kept many Native Americans from practicing "their most important ancestral and religious traditions" on the land, Trump said.

Trump is facing multiple lawsuits attempting to block the effort to shrink the boundaries of the national monuments. All five tribes make up The Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition, which lobbied for the establishment of Bears Ears and works to conserve the area.

Trump on Monday signed proclamations slashing the borders of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante, reducing them by about 50 percent and 84 percent, respectively.

Former President Bill Clinton established Grand Staircase in 1996.

The administration says the president is within his authority to reduce the size of monuments under the Antiquities Act by limiting the monuments to the smallest area.

Late-night host Stephen Colbert is joking about President Trump's decision to shrink two massive national monuments in Utah, saying "they're not Confederate monuments", so Trump doesn't care.
