Plane carrying 25 people crashes near northern Saskatchewan airport

The West Wind Aviation ATR-42 went down about a kilometre from the Fond-du-Lac airport at around 6:15 pm local time (0015 GMT Thursday), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said. Multiple injuries are being reported, and it is unknown at this point if there have been any fatalities.

Police now say all 25 people that were on a plane that crashed in northern Saskatchewan on Wednesday night are accounted for and there have been no fatalities.

"The rescue effort is the priority right now", said RCMP spokesperson Paul Dederick.

According to a source who reached out to the Daily Herald, the plane was a West Wind Aviation Aircraft.

A picture of the crash site posted on social media shows the damaged aircraft partly on its side in the trees with a wing jutting up in the air at a 45-degree angle as people search the plane.

He said: "Right now our primary concern remains with the passenger and crew that we're trying to look after right now".

Fond-du-Lac resident Raymond Sanger was at the community's bingo hall with his son when his son got a call about the crash.

Canada's Transportation Safety board said it was sending a team to investigate.
