Overwatch Winter Wonderland Event Adds New Skins And A Mode Next Week

Mei your days be merry and bright

It begins next week and introduces a variety of new content for free, in addition to bringing back some of what we saw past year. There will be plenty of new skins too, and Kaplan specifically hints at skins for Hanzo, Junkrat, and Roadhog.

Overwatch's seasonal Winter Wonderland event returns next week on December 12th, and Blizzard is breaking down what players can expect from this year's festivities in a developer update video.

While Winter Wonderland is a revival of last year's event, Blizzard is bringing some major new additions.

Last year's event saw two maps, King's Row and Hanamura, get what Blizzard calls a "seasonal pass", where they're decorated for the event. Hanamura and King's Row will return, but Black Forest will also get a lovely holiday display. One team will be comprised of five Meis, while the other will have only a single Winston playing the part of the Yeti. A limited-time mode, Mei's Snowball Offensive, will also return and now be playable on both Ecopoint: Antarctica and this winterized version of Black Forest.

Another new Mei-centric mode will be part of the festivities. Mei has a new ability that's specific to this mode, Ice Trap, and she can use it along with her usual Ice Wall to fend off the yeti. All six characters will be player controlled in the asynchronous mode, with the Meis seeking out Winston as he tries to track down meat in order to power up his primal rage and turn the tables. Once enough Meis-or Winston-are killed, the game is over.

"I know a lot of you are thinking it sounds kind of silly and kind of ridiculous and well, I'm here to tell you it absolutely is". Kaplan added that many of Overwatch's seasonal brawls are simply created to be fun, lighthearted and refreshing Arcade exercises that are available for a limited time.
