Representatives of SEIU Local 1021, IFPTE Local 21 and IBEW 1245 said the strike on Tuesday is meant to "highlight the city's unfair labor practices and workplace conditions".
IFPTE Local 21 Bargaining Team member and Oakland Crime Lab worker Wali Dieu echoed SEIU Local 1021's Chief Negotiator's disappointment and said, "Our workers are vital to City departments and the services they provide".
The city is bracing for a major shutdown of public services on Tuesday, as unions representing most of Oakland's civilian workforce have threatened to strike.
Members of an engineers union will also join the strike. The strike, if it occurs, would not include police officers, firefighters or other sworn workers.
Schaaf didn't comment earlier Monday on the possibility of a one-year deal and working with Brown as a mediator, but issued a statement in which she said, "We will continue to work hard to avert a strike". The union says the city is understaffed, underpays and relies too much on temporary help.
Oakland has a population of more than 400,000.
The city says the strike is unlawful. Furthermore, the City still refuses to prioritize the health and safety challenges facing Oakland residents and workers.
In addition, 20 city employees who belong to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers would respect Local 1021's picket lines, according to Flink.
Oakland workers will be striking starting at 7am, Tuesday, December 5.
SEIU Local 1021 conducted a half-day strike on November 2 that shut down Oakland libraries, senior centers, child care programs, park and recreation centers and other city services.
