Livestreaming, New Games Coming to Facebook Messenger

Just over a year ago, we launched games on Messenger and introduced the Instant Games platform to developers, enabling them to build customized gaming experiences for both Messenger and News Feed.

"I absolutely believe that the streaming community, the influencer community, will have the opportunity to see this as something they want to pick up on", Facebook's global director of games partnerships, Leo Olebe, told Venturebeat. To start the video users can press the "Start Live Video" button.

Livestreaming, new games and other new features are coming to Facebook Messenger soon, Facebook announced today. A new version of the physics game with unique features and modes created specifically for the chat app will launch in early 2018, followed by a few more titles like arcade-style adventure Sonic Jump by SEGA.

Disney Tsum Tsum, published by LINE and launching in 2018, will bring beloved Disney characters to Messenger as players collect, connect and pop Tsum Tsum based on the popular Disney Tsum Tsum plushes.

Facebook also announced that it is rolling out support for livestreaming Facebook Messenger games, starting today. While the company didn't give a ton of information about this new feature, it did say Words With Friends would be the first game released for the service.

The feature, powered by Facebook Live, lets Messenger users broadcast their gameplay to their Facebook Page or profile. When it ends, friends and fans can watch the saved recording.

"We're so glad that people are embracing the fantastic experiences game developers are building for Instant Games", Facebook said in its announcement.

Another new feature coming to Messenger will be live-streaming of games.

Then there's also a video chat that allows you to play at the same time as seeing your friends and family too. Facebook said it will start testing the feature soon and will introduce the video chat tool early next year.
