Kate Middleton steps out wearing lovely Diana hand-me-down

Catherine Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton

Last month the Duchess of Cambridge dipped her hand into the Queen's jewellery box to borrow one of her famous necklaces which was favoured by Princess Diana, and this week Kate chose to wear one of her favourite tiaras. You can guess how several publications went into a frenzy pointing out how Kate seems to have the same love for the tiara as her late mother-in-law.

Though the tiara was one of Diana's favorites, it was actually made for Queen Mary in 1914 by Garrard, jeweler to the British royal family. When Middleton wore the stunning headpiece in 2015, it was the first time it had been worn since Diana's passing in 1997. The Cambridge Lover's Knot did not make that cut and was placed into storage.

Kate Middleton wears a tiara while arriving at the Buckingham Palace 2017 Diplomatic Dinner. Upon the divorce of the Princess from Prince Charles, the tiara was returned back into storage.

She also wore the tiara in December 2016, at the same Buckingham Palace event a year ago, where she donned a bright red lace Jenny Packham gown. The Cambridge Lover's Knot is reportedly a crown that was owned by a German nobility from which Queen Mary took the inspiration for her own version.

The original Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara was sold at auction at Christie's in Geneva in May 1981, for more than £555,693 in today's pounds, to an anonymous buyer.
