A man stabbed his older sister and girlfriend to death before committing suicide at a shrine in Koto Ward in Tokyo last night (07).
Police have been searching for the attacker.
A violent attack with Japanese swords and survival knives at Tokyo's famed Tomioka Hachimangu shrine has left three dead - including the chief priestess and her brother - in an apparent family feud that turned deadly.
Police said that Nagako Tomioka, the 58-year-old head of Tomioka Hachimangu shrine, was attacked as she got out of her vehicle Thursday night.
At around 8:35 p.m., police received a distress call about a woman wielding a sword violently on a road near Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine.
One of those wounded was in serious condition, while the other sustained a minor injury, news reports said.
Shigenaga is believed to have later stabbed the woman's chest and stomach before killing himself at the shrine, located about 400 meters east of Monzennakacho station on the Tozai subway line.
Also, a woman aged in her 30s who was with Shigenaga Tomioka attacked and stabbed the driver of the vehicle with a Japanese sword, police said.
Shigenaga Tomioka was arrested some 10 years ago for blackmailing his sister.
At the time, his sister had held a post known as negi, the second-highest rank at a Shinto shrine after the chief priest.

Shigenaga and the other woman, who was his girlfriend and believed to be in her 30s, apparently ambushed Nagako after she got out of a vehicle on the grounds of the shrine in Tokyo's eastern ward of Koto.
The almost 400-year-old Tomioka Hachimangu shrine is known for its close ties to sumo and holding one of Tokyo's three big Shinto festivals.
