Ikea and Sonos join forces for all-new smart home music products

Sonos' CEO, Patrick Spence, added: "We believe that sound should be a considered element of home design, and together we will work with Ikea to create products and experiences that make people's home look and sound more unbelievable". But we'd hazard a guess they'll involve Sonos speakers integrated into things like table lamps and entertainment units, after all IKEA has already put wireless charging pads into some of its furniture, so adding audio tech into the mix shouldn't be too hard.

"IKEA is taking on sound in the home together with Sonos, and will explore how to make it even easier for people to play any song, anywhere in the home, without interrupting the flow of daily life", the company teased. Sonos is the largest manufacturer of multi-room audio systems, while IKEA is the world's biggest furniture retailer. The partnership is likely to result in more than one product, however.

Ikea has started to venture into the smart home market, introducing wireless charging solutions for mobile devices in 2015, and selling smart lighting solutions since previous year.

For Sonos, the most important part of the partnership could easily be the retail foothold.

IKEA plans to launch the products the collaboration yields in 2019, so there'll be a bit of a wait until we get to see the fruits of their labours.
