Ed Sheeran Received This Major Honor from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace

Ed Sheeran awarded an MBE by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace

After receiving an MBE for a glittering music career and his charity work, the singer-songwriter said he had not been asked by the prince and his fiancee to perform at the special one-off gig in May.

The 26-year-old accepted an MBE from Prince Charles earlier today and looked very dapper in a blue-fitted suit.

Global superstar Ed Sheeran has said he would be happy to play the first song at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding reception. Two honours in one day?

Ed Sheeran was officially made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Prince Charles on Thursday (07Dec17).

Sporting a blue tie, long black jacket, light blue waistcoat and grey pants outside the ceremony at Buckingham Palace afterwards, Sheeran spoke to reporters.

To name a few of his musical achievements, Ed won a Grammy Award a year ago and his latest album spent more than 15 weeks at the top of the charts.

Ed has performed with the likes of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Eminem, Elton John, Rudimental, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction, Beyonce, Gary Clarke and Example.

Sheeran also said that Prince Charles was impressed when he told him he was playing a concert in America on Friday night, just a day after the investiture ceremony in London.

Recently, it was announced that Ed had topped two of YouTube's trending lists for the United Kingdom in 2017 and "Shape of You" came number 2 on the list of most-watched YouTube music videos, coming second to "Despacito".

"He was asking me if I was still selling lots of records and I told him I've got a concert in NY tomorrow, and he was quite surprised I was flying after this", Sheeran said.

I mean, that's a laugh that he doesn't think he has a "vast" amount of talent.

Asked about the secret of his success, Sheeran played down his achievements, saying: "I think it's persistence".
