Ball State upsets Notre Dame with last-second 3

No. 9 Notre Dame entered as an 18-point favorite to take care of Ball State in South Bend, Ind., but wound up on the wrong end of an 80-77 result - one that will likely reside in upset-of-the-year conversation. The Fighting Irish were handed an 18-point loss by Michigan State on Thursday and then won by a similar margin Sunday when it registered a 71-53 win over St. Francis (N.Y.).

NOTES: Ball State visited Notre Dame for the first time since 1976. The Cardinals are seeking their first win over the Fighting Irish in 10 all-time meetings.

Ball State has now beaten Indiana State, IUPUI, and Notre Dame, with Valparaiso coming to Muncie this Saturday; that'd be a heck of a run against in-state schools.

Rutgers (6-3, 0-2) held the Spartans to season lows in points and shooting percentage (38.6).

Notre Dame senior forward Martinas Geben will look to stay hot against Ball State.

The improvement led some to question about whether Geben could benefit from 25-plus minutes per game.

Here's the shot that sent the Cardinals into a frenzy in South Bend.

"I think the two games that we haven't played really in my eyes, I thought that Oklahoma, we were a disaster", Whitford said. I'm extremely grateful, but it's not about my own performance. "We could sense we had a chance to win this game".

Bonzie Colson led the Irish with 26 points.

(8) BAYLOR 105, NORTH DAKOTA 43: Kalani Brown scored 21 points in 12 minutes to lead five players in double figures for Baylor (8-1) over North Dakota (4-3) at Waco, Texas. on Tuesday night. Senior guard Matt Farrell (15.9 average) and sophomore guard TJ Gibbs (14.3) join Colson as players scoring in double digits. The Fighting Irish entered the game as almost 20-point favorites over their in-state opponent but instead dropped to 3-1 at home.

"I'll be following them, and I'll be rooting for them because we need them to win, right? You want playing time, obviously, but guys are out there competing every day in practice". The Cardinals battled back to go ahead 67-58 with 6:47 to play after Persons scored seven straight points for his team on a pair of jump shots and a 3-pointer.

In its three-game winning streak, Ball State has forced opponents to turn the ball over 41 times. Trey Moses scored nine points as the Cardinals went to him often down the stretch, while Kyle Mallers and Jeremie Tyler added eight each.

Ball State's has outscored opponents 347-335 in the second half, but both Oklahoma and OR dominated in the second half, making the final 20 minutes of the game vital for Ball State on Tuesday night. The Fighting Irish are the highest-ranked opponent the Cardinals have faced since they played No. 1 IN on November 25, 2012.
