Ajax announced Thursday the sacking of manager Marcel Kaizer and the rest of his staff, hours after provisionally being provisonally suspended.
Ajax announced in a statement that Reiziger would be assisted by his number two at Jong Ajax, Winston Bogarde, another former Netherlands, Ajax, Milan and Barcelona defender, but who is best remembered by English fans for an ignominious spell with Chelsea at the end of his career.
There had also been a difference of opinion with Bergkamp, a club icon from his playing days, over the technical direction of the club, the statement added.
"Club management does not have enough confidence that the goal of Ajax will be realized with them".
"We've had a bad summer and have been limping into the season", Ajax general manager and former Dutch worldwide goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar said.
Van der Sar, Ajax's chief executive, told the club's official website: "We had a bad summer and a messy start to the season".
Ajax appointed the relatively inexperienced Keizer in June following the departure of Peter Bosz for Borussia Dortmund after a single season.
"The elimination from European competition was the lowest point and with Marc Overmars (the club's technical director) we have had many discussions in recent months over the on-going ability of our first team".
'Together with the supervisory board, we as management. are grateful to Marcel, Dennis and Hennie for their efforts for the club'.
It would be recalled that Ajax were knocked out of Champions League qualifying in the second round by French side Nice, leaving them with the Europa League as their only option to achieve something in Europe this season. On Wednesday, Ajax failed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Dutch Cup after a loss on penalties against FC Twente.
