Zendaya Nabs Starring Role in Reese Witherspoon-Produced Film A WHITE LIE

Zendaya Will Play First African-American Woman to Graduate from Vassar in 'A White Lie'

Disney "It" girl, Zendaya is a boss. She will also take part in the SPIDERMAN: HOMECOMING sequel, reprising her role alongside Tom Holland. Clearly, she has caught the bug.

Actress and singer Zendaya is set to star in the upcoming film A WHITE LIE (formerly titled THE GILDED YEARS).

Zendaya will also star in the film, playing the first African-American woman to graduate from Vassar College. Hemmings story is remarkable.

In line with the movie's title, Hemmings - a light-skinned woman who was the descendant of slaves - was able to graduate from Vassar by passing as white. In 1893-more than 40 years before Vassar began openly accepting women of color among its student body-Hemmings applied to the then-all-women's liberal arts college, declining to disclose her race on the application form. After the roommate's father hired a private investigator who discovered that Hemmings was black, the family alerted school officials weeks before graduation. She produced and starred in two episodes of the Disney Channel's K.C. Undercover earlier this year.

The psychological thriller will be written by Monica Beletsky and co-produced by Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter.

She will also be co-starring in the musical The Greatest Showman in December alongside actors Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron.
