Yemen blockade: aid supplies stuck in Djibouti

The UN on Tuesday called on the Saudi-led coalition to open all of Yemen's seaports in order to let humanitarian aid through.

Al-Mouallimi told reports from NY that the Coalition would conduct this process in complete agreement with Yemen's internationally recognized government, to allow the safe delivery of humanitarian aid.

After a November 4 ballistic missile attack near the Riyadh worldwide airport by Houthi rebels, Saudi Arabia had announced it shut down all ports in Yemen.

However, the port of Hodeidah on the western coast, where almost 80 percent of Yemen's food imports have gone through, is still closed.

The north of the country has 20 days' stocks of diesel and 10 days' stocks of gasoline, McGoldrick said.

According to Politico, the resolution "publicly acknowledges the Pentagon has been sharing targeting information and refueling warplanes that Saudi Arabia and other allies are using to attack Houthi rebels".

A statement issued by the Coalition on Monday said it hopes the United Nations teams of experts would prevent "the smuggling of weapons, ammunitions, missile parts and cash that are regularly being supplied by Iran and Iranian accomplices to the Houthi rebels".

Thousands of Yemenis took to the streets of the capital Sanaa on Monday to protest the closure of Yemen's ports by a Saudi-led military coalition.

The U.S. -backed coalition has been at war with the Shiite rebels, known as Houthis, since March 2015.

Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that more Yemeni civilians would die because of the closure of the Yemeni ports.

Aid groups are working around the clock to send much-needed supplies to Yemen, frantically loading larger ships to try to tackle the shortages once Saudi Arabia comes through on its promise to reopen some of the country's ports and airports.
