Vidya Balan has been promoting her upcoming film Tumhaari Sulu for a while now, and she was at a press conference when a reporter chose to ask her questions that can only be described as ignorant. This will be Vidya's second movie of the year, earlier she was seen in "Begum Jaan", which was not very well received by the audience, well "Tumhari Sulu" looks interesting and compelling. The connection between being skinny and being glamorous, or even between not being glamorous and doing women-centric roles only exists because of patriarchal notions. "However, [referring to journalist] there should be a change in the mindsets of people like you [who fat-shame people]".
Sure, male stars have higher footfalls and arguably see a much heightened level of fandom, but, if anything, Vidya Balan is the exception to this rule. I'm quite head-strong. But I think it can really be sexist. Time is changing at a lightning speed but it will still take time for people to change their narrow and generalizing mentalities. The film's story revolves around a homemaker who later discovers her talent as a radio jockey and then faces the twist and turns of life.
The female reporters present chimed in after that with their support for her and a smiling Vidya thanked them. Upon listening to this stupid question, Vidya said, "I am happy the way I am and whatever I am doing". The weird question left the actress visibly shocked.
