Bungie's FPS RPG joins hugely popular singleplayer games The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Horizon: Zero Dawn as the only games to have received as many nominations.
At the end of every year, the gaming community comes together to select games, personalities, and organizations to win specific awards in given categories. The major categories for the awards are organized as: game awards, community awards, esports awards, other awards, and worldwide awards.
Gamers can head over to the Game Awards Show page to begin casting their votes.
The Game Awards will be live on December 7 on basically every streaming platform you can imagine.
Notable among the Game of the Year nominees is the controversial inclusion of "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds", a title that has always been in early access. The game awards category holds the coveted "Game of the Year" award, along with awards for the best games in their respective genres and best games for developers (game direction, narrative, sound design, etc.). One of the categories that will allow fan input is Most Anticipated Game, which features titles like God of War, Red Dead Redemption II, and The Last of Us Part II. Those first three are among a quartet of heavily-lauded games (along with Destiny 2) that scored six category nominations each. Nominees were selected by 51 media outlets around the world. The "two-time consecutive blockbuster video game champion" stole the show at the Esports Industry Awards 2017 earlier this week by winning the "Streamer of the Year" award. To see the full list of nominees, visit The Game Awards' website right here. Most of the categories will be decided upon by a combination of juries and public votes, with the former comprising the largest percentage. Winners will be announced live on December 7 at 8:30 pm ET and 11:30 am AEST at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
