The firm did not specify the reason for the ouster in the letter, but sources said that the investigation uncovered behaviors by Jurvetson that were unacceptable related to a negative tone toward women entrepreneurs.
The report came a day after entrepreneur Keri Kukral published a Facebook post saying that "women approached by founding partners of Draper Fisher Jurvetson should be careful".
In a tweet on Monday afternoon, Jurvetson wrote that he would be pursuing "legal action", but he did not respond to Ars' query as to when or where such action would be taking place.
Jurvetson now serves on the boards of Tesla and SpaceX, but he has taken a leave as a result of these allegations, according to CNBC. At the firm, she contended, "predatory behavior is rampant". Silencing behaviour ranges from security w/in the firm creating files on women, to potential violations of revenge porn laws, to threats.
"As of today and by mutual agreement, Steve Jurvetson will be leaving DFJ", a spokeswoman for the Menlo Park, California-based firm said in an e-mailed statement. "We immediately opened an independent investigation, which is ongoing at this time".
One of the firm's partners, Heidi Roizen, wrote in a blog post titled "The Truth about DFJ" denying that the company had a "predatory" culture towards women. "They include Justin Caldbeck of Binary Capital and Dave McClure of 500 Startups".
A prominent venture capitalist facing sexual harassment allegations has stepped down in addition to taking leave from the boards of Tesla and SpaceX.
